We strongly condemn the terrorist attack perpetrated in Zliten, Libya against a Police Training Centre today (7 January) and claimed the lives of many people. We wish God’s mercy upon those who lost their lives in the attack, convey our condolences to their families and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded.

This heinous attack has demonstrated once again the urgent need for effective fight against terrorism and safeguarding national security and stability in Libya. In this framework, it is all the more important that the Government of National Accord established on the basis of the Libyan Political Agreement signed on 17 December 2015 take office without delay.

Turkey will continue to contribute also to the efforts of the new Government of National Accord towards establishing security and stability in Libya, as has been the case so far.
