The European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), which is the monitoring mechanism within the Council of Europe for the implementation of the “European Convention for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment”, upon authorization by our Government, published today (20 March 2018) the report on its “ad hoc” visit to İmralı F-Type High Security Closed Prison on 28-29 April 2016 together with our response. The documents are available on the website of CPT.

Turkey attaches importance to the independent monitoring mechanisms of the Council of Europe and cooperating with these mechanisms in accordance with the conventions that Turkey is a party to. The publication of the said CPT report and the response of our Government reflects this understanding.
